BIKE RIDES ON ÎLE DE RÉ

Your discovery of the Ile de Ré by bike starts at the gates of the campsite in La Flotte-en-Ré, located just a few metres from the cycle track that leads to Saint-Martin-de-Ré, the historic capital of the island! Three kilometres further on, you arrive at the port of Saint-Martin. Take the opportunity to visit the Vauban fortifications and the citadel classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Leave Saint-Martin and follow the route de Loix along the ocean.

On your itinerary, make a stop at the small port of Le Goisil in La Couarde-sur-Mer before getting back on your two-wheeler and heading through fields and salt marshes. Finally, a few kilometres further on, you set foot on the Grouin beach at the very end of the Loix peninsula!

Starting from the north beach of Rivedoux located near the Pont de Ré, you will reach Sainte-Marie-de-Ré, a pretty village typical of the area. Continuing towards Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré, you can take a short swimming break on the Gollandières beach and “take a dip” on one of the most beautiful beaches of the Ile de Ré. The route continues towards Anse du Matray through the marshes to reach Ars-en-Ré, recognisable from afar thanks to the black and white bell tower of its church. Afterwards, you will discover wild and beautiful landscapes before getting off your bike at the foot of the famous Whale Lighthouse at the western tip of the island. A guaranteed change of scenery!

From Saint-Clément and after visiting the lighthouse of Les Baleines and its museum, get back on your bike and pedal to the beach of La Conche, the largest beach on the Ile de Ré. Invigorated by the scent of the pines and cypresses of the Lizay forest, continue the ride to the pretty village of Les Portes-en-Ré. You will love to linger in the small flowered alleyways to recharge your batteries and stock up on provisions at the market which is held every day in summer. After this short stopover, you are ready to explore the Lilleau des Niges bird reserve in the heart of the salt marshes by making a detour to the Maison du Fier, a museum dedicated to the natural heritage of the Ile de Ré. At the crossroads, you can reach the port of Ars-en-Ré and complete this nice little loop!
