CAMPSITE BOIS-PLAGE-EN-RÉ
10 minutes from the 5-star campsite La Grainetière, on the south coast of the Ile de Ré, discover the charming little village of Bois-Plage. A stopover in Ré that will touch the hearts of holidaymakers!
A CHARMING VILLAGE IN THE COLOURS OF THE ILE DE RÉ!
Located in the centre of the island, 6 km from the campsite, Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré is a charming village of some 2,400 inhabitants all year round, very lively in summer with the arrival of holidaymakers. The centre of the village is full of shops and boutiques. Not forgetting its daily market in summer, the most important on the island.
But to discover all the charms of Bois-Plage, it is necessary to stroll in the lanes and alleys dotted with white, red and pink hollyhocks. Here and there, the tall winegrowers’ houses remind us that the village has long-lived from the cultivation of the vine. One building in particular stands out from the others. It is the Malakoff tower, a house built by the essayist and art collector Théodore Phelippot in 1854. He was mayor of the commune of Bois-Plage for 22 years. In the centre of the village, the church of Notre-Dame-de-Tous-les-Saints is worth a visit for its stained glass windows decorated with marine motifs.
VAMOS A LA PLAYA !
Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré is also a small beach resort with almost 6km of beaches protected by dunes. They are called the Battery, the Little Sergeant, the Fountains, Bidon V, the Gollandières, the Sauzes, the Pas des Boeufs, the Gros Jonc or the Gouillauds. The Bois-Plage pier gives direct access to the beaches of Bidon V and Gollandières.
LE BOIS PLAGE EN RÉ, THE COUNTRYSIDE BY THE SEA
Take advantage of your camping holidays near Le Bois-Plage to go for nice walks or bike rides between the beach, the dunes, the vineyards and the forest. From Le Bois-Plage, the cycle path will allow you to easily reach the villages of La Couarde-sur-Mer and Sainte-Marie through the vineyards, or to head towards Saint-Martin-de-Ré, the historic capital of the Ile de Ré.
Straddling the communes of Bois-Plage, Sainte-Marie and La Flotte, the Evières clearing is a natural area that is still unknown to visitors, surrounded by copses and dunes, amidst maritime pines, umbrella pines and holm oaks, in a small corner of nature with a Mediterranean flavour. This is where the highest point of the island of Ré is located: Peu-des-Aumonts and its 19 metres of altitude!
While walking in the old hamlet of Morinand, halfway between Le Bois-Plage and Saint-Martin-de-Ré, you can discover the Bellerre mill (one of the last windmills on the island of Ré to have kept its wings) and the very picturesque Morinand clock house.
HOLIDAYS BETWEEN VINEYARDS AND OCEAN
A former winegrowing village, Le Bois-Plage still bears witness to its winegrowing past. It is also here that the cooperative of the winegrowers of the Ile de Ré is located. A must for lovers of good Charentais wines, cognacs and pineaux. The winegrowers welcome you all year round to the cellar, where you can taste and buy the best wines from the island of Ré and typical products, as well as visit the distillery and the ageing cellars.
